Hydroxychloroquine is a quinoline medication used to treat and prevent malaria, a mosquito-borne parasitic disease common in regions such as Africa, South America, and Southern Asia. It is also prescribed to manage autoimmune conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus (lupus) by reducing inflammation and regulating the immune system. Hydroxychloroquine should only be used under medical supervision, as it is not effective against all strains of malaria.
